His interest in martial arts ignited from an early age. This exploration led him to a local boxing gym as a youngster and becoming fascinated with the sweet science. He soon after became an assistant coach under Trevor Francis at Basingstoke ABA for many years and competing in the middleweight and heavyweight division himself. Around this time he started Judo and BJJ whilst at university graduating with a law degree. Realising that he wanted to dedicate his life to his passions, Jiu Jitsu quickly became his greatest study. In 2018 after many years of continuous study and competing Matt was awarded his black belt by Andy Roberts who himself is a black belt under the great Roger Gracie. Over the years Matt has travelled and trained all over the world and also spent time at BKK fighters in Essex training alongside UFC fighters such as Arnold Allen and others. Matt can often be seen in the corner of professional MMA fighters as a Jiu Jitsu and boxing coach. He always talks about how Jiu Jitsu is a personal journey and that trying it, could just well change your life.
